Your First Steps on the Server
When you first spawn in, you'll land at the CastiaMC hub. Here's what to do:
- Read the rules at spawn. They're short, fair, and cover what you'd expect — no griefing, no hacking, be decent to people.
- Pick a job. Type
/jobs browseto choose a profession like Miner, Farmer, Builder, or Hunter. You'll earn in-game money automatically while doing that activity. - Head into the wild. Walk or use
/wildto teleport to a random wilderness location and start building. - Join or start a town. Towny towns claim land and protect it from griefing. Ask in chat if any towns are recruiting, or save up to found your own with
/town new <name>. - Check the map. The live world map is accessible from our website so you can scout unclaimed land before you commit to a location.
If you're ever lost or stuck, type /spawn to return to the hub, or ask in chat — the community is generally happy to help newcomers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is CastiaMC free to play?
Yes, completely. Joining and playing costs nothing. Our store sells cosmetics — hats, pets, join/leave messages, and visual effects — but nothing in the store gives a gameplay advantage. Economy, land, and progression are earned in-game by playing.
What version of Minecraft do I need?
Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21 or newer. We keep up with recent Java releases, so if you're on a current version you'll be fine. Older versions may work but are not officially supported.
Does CastiaMC support Bedrock Edition?
No. Bedrock Edition (Windows 10/11 app, console, mobile) is not compatible with CastiaMC. Towny is a Java-Edition-only plugin. You'll need the Java Edition of Minecraft, available at minecraft.net.
Do I need to install any mods or resource packs?
No mods are required — join with a completely vanilla client. We do offer an optional resource pack that loads automatically when you connect; you can accept or decline it in-game. Performance mods like Sodium or Iris are fine to use.
What is Towny?
Towny is a land-claim and governance plugin. Players found towns, claim chunks of land, build economies, and optionally form nations by allying with other towns. Your claimed land is protected — only town members can build or break there. For a full breakdown, read our What is Towny? guide.
Do I have to join a town?
No. You can play as a nomad in the wilderness. Keep in mind that unclaimed land has no protection and can be claimed by expanding towns, so most players settle into a town within their first few sessions. It's much easier to get started in an existing town than to build one from scratch — don't be afraid to ask in chat.
Is there a map reset? When is the next one?
Yes — CastiaMC runs seasonal maps. When a new season begins, the world and economy reset so everyone starts fresh. We've had 8 seasons since 2016. Reset dates are announced in Discord well in advance so you have time to save screenshots or schematics.
Is there PvP?
Claimed town land is PvP-off by default — you're safe inside your borders. PvP happens in the wilderness (unclaimed land between towns) and in designated PvP arenas. Nation wars can temporarily change the rules for contested territory.
I'm getting a "can't connect" error. What do I do?
Double-check the address is exactly play.castiamc.com with no extra characters. Make sure you're on Java Edition (not Bedrock). If the server is in maintenance mode between seasons, it will show as offline — check Discord for the current status. If none of that helps, ask in the #help channel on Discord.
How long has CastiaMC been running?
Since 2016 — over 10 years. More than 500,000 players have joined across 8 map seasons. Read the full 10th anniversary post for the history.
